KANSAS CITY, Mo. (CBS SF) — San Francisco Giants pitcher Madison Bumgarner once again defied expectations and left a lasting impression by apparently chugging just one single beer during the locker room celebration following the team’s World Series win Tuesday.
Bumgarner, the series’ Most Valuable Player for his record-breaking pitching performance against the Kansas City Royals, created a signature move during previous locker room celebrations of pouring multiple bottles of beer down his throat.

After the Wild Card playoff victory against Pittsburgh, Bumgarner grabbed four beers and poured them down the hatch all at once.

The Division Series victory over the Washington Nationals prompted a five-beer pour. He upped the ante again following the Championship Series win over the St. Louis Cardinals by slinging six beers in the vicinity of his mouth.
For the World Series victory and his second MVP title following his NLCS MVP award, Bumgarner changed up and downed a single bottle of Budweiser with most observers likely expecting at least a six-pack attempt – similar to how he kept the Royals’ hitters off-balance.
Maybe he was done hoisting multiple brews after throwing 68 pitches just two days after his complete game masterpiece for Game 5. “You know what? I can’t lie to you anymore,” he told reporters. “I’m a little tired now.”
